Joseph Francis Bensur Jr.

Joseph Francis Bensur Jr., 93 of Lake City, died Friday January 29, 2010 at Pleasant Ridge Manor following a brief illness. Joe was born November 23, 1916 in North Girard, Pa., a son of the late Joseph F. and Mary Pitek Bensur, Sr.

He attended school in North Girard and later went to work for Marx Toys in Girard. He was inducted into the US Army during WWII and following his discharge returned to the Lake City area. He studied carpentry following WWII and later became a Master Carpenter, most recently being employed by the Western Pa. Local Union #81. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fairview; the Girard American Legion Post #494 and the Siebenbuerger Club.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Katherine Mitcho Bensur, whom he married June 1, 1940; also by three sisters, Anna Dudas, Helen V. Meldon and Frances Kuharsky and five brothers, Sylvester, Robert, Thomas, John, and William Bensur. Survivors include two brothers, Paul Bensur and his wife Dodie of Lake City and Ed Bensur and his wife Mary of Erie; also many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard. A Prayer Service will be held there on Monday at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Fairview at 10 a.m., with Rev. Daniel Prez presiding. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery with full military honors.
