Richard "Dick" E. East

Richard "Dick" E. East 84 of Chestnut Street, Fairview,died Friday September 18, 2009 at Pleasant Ridge Manor following a brief illness. He was born May 17, 1925 in Erie, a son of the late Arthur and Ruth McDannall East.

Dick was raised and educated in the Erie area and graduated from Fairview High School in 1943. He graduated from Penn State University in 1947 with a degree in Agriculture Science, and married Esther Cornwell East on April 18 of the same year in Hagerstown, Md. He owned and operated a dairy farm in McKean, and became a McKean Township Supervisor in 1963. He remained a Supervisor for 23 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the McKean United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher and greeter and enjoyed hunting, telling stories and making people laugh. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Max A. East and Daniel "Sidney" East.

He will be sadly missed by his family which includes his his wife, Esther J. Cornwell East; three daughters, Susan C. More and her companion Larry Majersky of Erie, Barbara A. Vanderhoof and her husband Scott of McKean, and Vicki L. Lasher and her husband Daniel of McKean; two sons, Richard J. "Dick" East of Erie and Patrick A. East and his wife Melissa of Springboro; two sisters-in-law, Arlene B. Byrne and her husband Fritz of Girard and Nadine East of Rutherford, Tenn.; thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Friends may call on Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home 309 Main St. East, Girard. Services will be held there on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Rev. Barbara English officiating. Burial will be in Erie County Memorial Gardens.
