Doris E. Platz English

Doris E. Platz English, 92 of Girard, died Saturday June 20, 2009 at Hamot Medical Center. Doris was born March 14, 1917 in Fairview, a daughter of the late Samuel and Elizabeth A. Katzman Platz.

She was raised on a 100 acre farm in Fairview Twp where she attended the Krieder School. She worked for three years at the Girard Cemetery mowing grass and one summer on the railroad.

She was a member of the Federated Church in East Springfield and the Girard American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to work outside, flower gardening, having fun, always enjoyed a good party, and especially loved balloons and butterflies. Doris was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who cared deeply for her family and was very devoted to them.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin M. English in August of 1989, and whom she married in September of 1941; also by a sister, Gladys Kendig and three half sisters, Ruth McKenzie, Myrtle Streuschen, Bertha Nece; and two brothers, Norman Platz and Elton Platz.

She is survived by her daughter Darlene M. Rudd of Girard; a son, Duane M. English of Girard; a grandson Gary Rudd and his wife Michelle of Curtis, OH; a great grandaughter Holly Rudd and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 2-4PM and 7-9PM at Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard and are invited to attend services there on Wednesday at 2PM. Pastor Rick Plucknett officiating. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.
