Mark L. Black Jr.

Mark L. Black Jr., 62 of Erie and formerly of Lake City, died Thursday March 26, 2009 at Abington Crest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. Mark was born in Erie, August 11, 1946 a son of the late Mark L. and Ethel Irwin Black Sr.

He attended Girard's Rice Avenue Union High School and later enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1964. He was deployed overseas to Vietnam where he served two tours of duty, returning stateside with the rank of Sargent. While enlisted in the Corps he received the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, The Vietnam Campaign Medal with device; the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star for Valor and a Presidential Unit Citation.Upon his discharge from the Marine Corps he returned to Lake City and worked for various companies throughout Erie County.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Case and a brother Derald Black. Survivors include his son, Mark Courson of Edinboro; three brothers, Richard Black and his wife Wanda of Girard, James Black of Erie, William Black and his wife Shirley of Millcreek and several nieces and nephews.

No calling hours will be observed. Funeral services will be held privately by the family.
