Lucy M. Huggler Brink
Lucy passed away peacefully at her home early Friday morning, Jan. 23, 2009, following a lengthy illness.
She was born on Sept. 3, 1923 in Ridgway PA, a daughter of the late Albert and Minnie Streich Huggler.
She graduated from Ridgway High School in 1941 and later married Logan E. "Spike" Brink on March 28, 1942. She was an Army wife for 25 years, being stationed in Okinawa, Fort Knox, KY, and Germany before returning to Ridgway in 1963 with her husband, Msgt. Logan Brink, and family. She lived there until 1979 when she and her husband retired to Erie, where she resided until his death in 1986, then moved to Girard where she had resided since.
Lucy loved the out of doors, be it in her garden, back yard or camping at Mesongo in the woods. She had a love of music and singing, and a great enthusiasm for her Swiss heritage with music and yodeling, and she gave that passion and talent to her children.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son LtCol. (Ret) Thomas L. Brink in 2008. Also preceding her in death were five sisters, Mrs. Ann Van Horn, Mrs. Rose Stager, Mrs. Bertha Horning, Mrs. Margaret Hemke, Mrs. Ida Popiel; and two brothers, Andrew and John Huggler.
She is survived by a daughter, Joyce M. Brink of Girard; and two sons, James A. Brink of Erie and Timothy J. Brink and his wife Tammie of Fairview; a sister, Mrs. Jeannette Johnson of Ridgway PA; a brother Robert "Boots" Huggler of Bel Aire MD; seven grandchildren, Thomas L. Brink Jr.of York PA, Brian J. Brink of Harrisburg PA, Mary Lee Brink Fliss of San Antonio TX, David Benoit Brink of Corpus Christi TX, Michael J. Brink of Erie, and T.J. Brink and Ryan Brink, both of Fairview. She also leaves seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her dog, Skoshie.
Friends may call on Thursday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 2 PM at Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard. Rev. Richard Page will officiate.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Ridgway PA.
