Elizabeth "Betty" Demenik

Elizabeth "Betty" Demenik 90, formerly of East Springfield died Monday November 24, 2008 at the home of her daughter in Erie. She was born September 8, 1918 in Cranesville, a daughter of the late Valentine and Veronica Maytan Chromik.

Betty and her late husband Philip, owned and operated a produce farm in East Springfield for many years. In 1990 She moved to Millcreek until recently, when she resided with her daughter. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in McKean and a former member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Girard. Her greatest love was to take care of her family, and was a true homemaker, she loved working and raising her children on their farm in East Springfield. She was known throughout the area for making her famous pirogies.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Philip Demenik whom she married in Erie in 1937; also by three sisters Anna Midkiff, Mary Dobrogosz and Catherine Gallant; and three brothers, Valentine, Clementine and John Chromik. She is survived by daughters Phyllis A. Bujnowski of Salt Lake City, Utah, Carolyn E. Atkinson and her husband Oneal of LasVegas, Nev., Ann Marie Fasso of Alexandria, Va., Susan D. Bleil and her husband Bernie of Erie and Rosemary F. Maher of Fairview. Two sons, Jim P. Demenik and his wife Terri of Lake City, and John W. Demenik of Riverside, Calif. She is further survived by sisters Millie Bulo of Erie and Martha Headley of Crossingville, Pa.; and one brother Joe Chromik also of Crossingville; sixteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home 309 Main St. East, Girard. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John's Catholic Church 101 Olin Ave. Girard on Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the St. John's Cemetery.
