Virginia Platz Davies

Virginia Platz Davies, 85, formerly of Fairview, Pa., died Friday June 27, 2008 at Edinboro Manor where she had recently resided. Virginia was born May 20, 1923 in Fairview, Pa., daughter of the late Frank and Cleo Getz Hartley.

She graduated from Fairview High School in 1941 and later married Leon E. Platz in March of 1942. Virginia was a past member of the Fairview Presbyterian Church and more recently the Avon Park Presbyterian Church in Avon Park, Fla. where she had lived for the past 20 years. She enjoyed golfing and knitting sweaters, afghans, and scarfs for family and friends.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Leon E. Platz, sisters Norma Weiser and Elaine Brown and brother Frank Hartley. She is survived by her daughter Connie Pavolko of Albion, son Neil Platz and wife Lesley of Royal Oak, Mich.; grandchildren Tamara Belden of Lake City, Victor Pavolko and wife Esther, Mandy Pavolko and Stephanie Pavolko, all of Albion, Pa., Heidi Hoppe and husband Matthew of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Heather Ratich and husband Jeffery of Royal Oak, Mich., eight great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

No calling hours will be observed, services will be held privately by the family. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard.
