Melvin C. Dinger
Melvin C. Dinger, 69 of Girard, died Monday May 26, 2008 at St. Vincent Health Center, surrounded by his family. He was born in Ringgold Township in Jefferson County, Pa., a son of the late Harry and Grace Brocious Dinger.
After graduating from Punxsutawney High School in 1957, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed with at Pope Air Force Base in Fayetteville, North Carolina and Sembach Air Force Base, Germany. Following his discharge, Melvin relocated to the Girard area. He worked for Lake City Housing and many years at Copes-Vulcan in Lake City retiring from there as a machinist. Melvin was a hard working man who loved his family and was totally devoted and dedicated to them. He loved nature and was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Northwestern Sportsman Association.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Stanley Dinger. He will be missed by his family which includes his devoted wife Fay E. Reed Dinger, whom he married on August 19, 1961; daughter Terri L. Blount and Dan of Lake City; sons Melvin C. Dinger Jr. and his wife Linda of Fairview, Tracy J. Dinger and his wife Kristy of Girard, and Shawn J. Dinger and his fiance Sara Adair of Lake City; sisters Eva Work of Sumpter, S.C., and Gladys Turner and husband David of Erie; brothers Ken Dinger and his wife Jean of Niagara Falls, N.Y., Walter Dinger and his wife Velma of Jonesboro, Tenn., and Edward Dinger and his wife Shirley of Erie; ten grandchildren, Katelyn, Jenna, Tyler, Chelsea, Toney, Ashley, Cody, Corey, Jordan, and Haley; a great grandson, Jaiden; step-grandchildren, Monica and Jamie; step-great grandchildren Tyler, Charles, and Morgan; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. at the Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard, and are invited to attend services there on Friday at 10:00 AM. Internment will be at the Girard Cemetery with full military honors.
