Mary Adams Johnson

Mary Adams Johnson, 87 of Girard, died on Thursday April 10, 2008 at Pleasant Ridge Manor. Mary was born June 8, 1920 in McKeesport, a daughter of the late George and Mary Adams.

She moved to East Springfield area with her family as a young girl where she attended the Fairhaven School, the East Springfield School and later Girard's Rice Avenue Union High School. She had worked for Marx Toys in Girard for 25 years as an assembler. Later she worked for Robert Jon Florist in Erie (her son's business) for 20 years. Mary was a long time member of the Girard United Methodist Church, where she was involved in the Circle's of the church and baked for many of the church's functions. She was also a member of the Elk Valley Garden Club.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil L. Johnson in 1987, whom she married March 20,1937 in Ripley, NY; also by two sons, Robert Johnson in 1985 and Larry Johnson in 1988, also by a sister, Christine McCullough, a sister Pauline Adams and a brother John Adams. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca A. Culbertson and her husband Jack of Venango; two sons, Dennis L. Johnson of Girard and James Johnson of Huntsville, Alabama; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Cronin Johnson of Girard; three sisters, Betty Antolik and her husband Andrew "Toby", Dolores Adams and Margaret Leonheart all of Erie; three brothers, George Adams and his wife Dolores of Anaheim, CA., Richard Adams and his wife Suzanne of Columbus, Pa., Raymond Adams of New York City; four granddaughters, Amy Sinelli and her husband Peter, Jessica Johnson and her fiance' D.J. Peters, Alexandra Johnson and Dennis Bee, Cameo Cramer; two great grandchildren, Michael and Alexander Sinelli; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Monday from 2-4PM and 7-9PM at Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard. Services will be held on Tuesday at 10AM at the Girard United Methodist Church 48 Main St. East, Girard, Rev. Darrell Greenawalt Pastor of the church officiating. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.
