Carolyn E. Hetrick Keener Barnett

Carolyn E. Hetrick Keener Barnett, 81 of Girard, died Sunday March 30, 2008 at St. Vincent Health Center, Erie. She was born in Deanville, Pa., Armstrong Co., a daughter of the late Ray and Florence Shumaker Hetrick.

She graduated from the New Bethlehem High School and later enrolled in Nurses training at the Butler Memorial Hospital. She received her Registered Nursing degree from there and worked many years at the Brookville Hospital, retiring from there in 1992. Following her retirement, she moved to Girard to reside near her family. She was a member of the First Church of God in Erie, where she loved playing the organ. Recently she had been attending the Lake City Presbyterian Church. Carolyn enjoyed knitting, crocheting and gardening.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son David Ray Keener in infancy; a sister Kay Ellenberger and a brother Gale Hetrick. She is survived by two daughters, Candace L. Shaffer and her husband Dennis of Girard, Pamela J. Thompson and her husband Charles of Fairview; a son, John M. Keener and his wife Avis of Ringgold, Pa.; a sister, Margaret Lehmann and her husband Walter of Madison, Wis.; a brother Keith Hetrick and his wife Marge of Richmond, Va.; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. at Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 823 Filmore Ave., Erie, PA 16505
