Wilbur K. Davis

Wilbur K. Davis, 82 of Lake City, PA went to be with the Lord on Sunday February 24, 2008, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born in North Girard on March 11, 1925, a son of the late Lynn Merle and Eva Hamilton Davis.

Wilbur graduated from Girard's Union High School in 1942. After graduation, Wilbur entered the military during WWII. In the US Navy, he served aboard the USS Apollo, a sub-tender, in the South Pacific until his discharge in 1946. He returned to the Girard area and accepted a position with the Lord Corp. in 1948, retiring as a tool and die maker in 1987.

He was an active member of the Lake City United Methodist Church serving as a trustee for several years and could be seen in the church kitchen helping out during Penny Suppers. Wilbur was also was member of the American Legion Post #494 in Girard and The Lord Corp. Quarter Century Club. Gardening was Wilbur's passion and he loved to share his fruits and vegetables with neighbors and family. He was also an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bette Fidler Davis in 1967; sisters Louise Brenholts and Winnie Waxham; brothers Everett, Merle, Ronald and Donald Davis.; a grand-daughter, Virginia Ann, a step-son, Kirk Miller and a step-grandson, Kirk Miller Jr.

He is survived by his wife Janet Crossman Davis; a daughter, Wendy L. Burke and her husband, Robert of Lake City; three sons, Kenneth P. Davis and his wife, JulieAnn of Girard, Thomas A. Davis and his wife, Maureen of Pittsburgh, Glenn A. Davis and his wife, Cynthia of Girard; a step-daughter Margaret Rogers and her husband, Robert of Longview, TX, three step-sons Charles Miller and his wife, Diane of Boiling Springs, PA, Mitchell Miller and his wife, Linda of Harrisburg, PA, Thomas Miller and his wife, Kirsten of Tucson, AZ; two sisters, Virginia Meeder and her husband, Robert of Lake City, R. Joanne Bigelis of Woodinville, Wash.; a brother, W. Russell Davis and his wife, Anne of Williamsport, MD; 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 2 p.m to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Lake City United Methodist Church, 10087 Sampson Ave., Lake City, and are invited to attend services there on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Darrell Greenawalt, Pastor of the church, officiating.
