William R. "Bill" Bloom

William R. "Bill" Bloom, 69 of Lake City, died Saturday February 2, 2008 at St. Vincent Health Center.
He was born in Erie on August 16, 1938, a son of the late Raymond W. and Ellen Anderson Bloom.

Bill graduated from East High School in Erie and then enlisted in the US Navy. While in the service he served aboard the USS Saratoga and was deployed in the North Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea. Following his discharge from the military he returned to the Erie area and enrolled at Edinboro State College (now Edinboro University) where he graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education. He further studied and received his Masters degree from Murray State University in Murray,KY. After beginning his teaching career in Falconer, NY, he moved to Girard in 1964. There he taught chemistry and general science until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the Springfield VFW post #4965 and the Girard American Legion Post #494.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed hunting and fishing, riding trials bikes when he was younger, and especially enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Edna J. Calhoun Bloom whom he married October 27, 1962 in Mayville, NY, also by three sons, William R. Bloom and his wife Jill of Girard, Ray Alan Bloom and his wife Valerie of Girard, Jon P. Bloom of Erie; two grandchildren, Amber and Amanda Bloom; a brother, Thomas J. Bloom and his wife Nancy of Erie and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 2-4PM and 7-9PM at Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard. Services will be held there on Wednesday at 10AM. Rev. Darrell Greenawalt, Pastor of the Girard and Lake City United Methodist Church's officiating.
