Clarence Harold "Hal" Fagley

Clarence Harold "Hal" Fagley, 83, formerly of Lake City, went to be with his Lord on Monday, January 14, 2008 at the Forestview Skilled Care Center.

He was born January 3, 1925 in Sligo, PA, a son of the late Clarence M. and Grace Hartman Fagley.

Hal graduated from the Porter Twp. high school in 1941. As America was at war, he was inducted into the US Army. He served aboard several ships in the South West Pacific theatre of operations as a Staff Sgt. in the medical corps.

Following his discharge from the military he moved to the Girard area where he owned and operated "Hals Barber Shop" for 40 years, and then barbered in Albion for a period of 10 years.

Hal was well known throughout the Girard and Lake City areas for his barbering skills. He was also known as a master at ping pong, and enjoyed a good game of croquet or golf. He was no stranger to the 'Peak', downhill skiing to the age of 75. He was a Steelers fan and will be remembered as one who "enjoyed living life to its fullest."

He was a long time member of the Girard Alliance Church, where he served as head usher and an instrumental part of the Building Committee for the new sanctuary completed in 1998. He was also a proud lifetime member of the Girard American Legion Post #494, the Elk Creek Recreational Board, and was instrumental in the development and building of the Girard Pool. He was a past President of the Girard Cemetery Association for a period of six years.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister in infancy, Charlene Fagley. He will be greatly missed by his family, which includes his wife Rita A. Cochrane Fagley, whom he married June 29, 1946 in Erie, also by a daughter, Karen S. Daniels and her husband Jeff of Lynchburg, VA.; two sons, Ronald H. Fagley and his wife Becky and Mark A. Fagley and his wife Maria all of Lake City; a sister, Greta J. Herbst and her husband Paul of Erie; three grandchildren, Matthew J. Fagley and his wife Angela of Toledo, OH., Christine M. Durfee and her husband Shawn of Girard, Darrin P. Fagley of Lake City; four great grandchildren, Justin and Kayla Fagley and Alec and Emmalene Durfee; also several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Thursday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the Girard Alliance Church, 229 Rice Ave. Girard. Services will be held there on Friday at 11AM. Rev. Clyde Davis, Pastor of the church will be officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Girard Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Girard Alliance Church building fund. The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Spring Hill Community for their care and concern during Hal's stay at their facility. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St. East, Girard.
