William S. Brower

William S. Brower, 89 formerly of Albion and Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., died Tuesday January 1, 2008 at Pleasant Ridge Manor West. He was born, March 9, 1918 in Albion, a son of the late Samuel E. and Ollie M. Sharp Brower.

He graduated from the Albion High School in 1936 and worked in the local area. As America was at war he was inducted into the US Army. He was very proud to have served his country during World War II. His duty as a non commissioned officer was to supervise several enlisted men in setting up and firing of machine guns and rocket launchers in combat actions. He received the American Defense Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with a bronze star and the Purple Heart issued in June of 1944 for wounds received in combat actions. Upon his discharge from the military he moved to the Mentor Ohio and worked in Cleveland in the aerospace industries. He later moved to Florida where he worked for United Technology as a technician and retired from there. He returned to the Erie area and lived at the Regency South Shore until recently moving to Pleasant Ridge. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed photography and automobiles, and was especially proud of his "Triumph"

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters, Bernice Brower, Marian Adamson, Margaret "Buddy" Valiga and Vivian Benneman. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mary Jane Connors Brower of Girard; two nephews, Dennis Adamson of Albion and Andy Adamson of Edinboro.

No calling hours will be observed. A memorial service with military honors will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Pleasant Ridge Manor activities fund, 8300 West Ridge Rd., Girard, PA. 16417 or to the West County Paramedic Association, PO Box 5, Girard, PA. 16417 Funeral arrangments are under the direction of Daniel R. Edder Funeral Home, Girard.
