Joan Catherine Repman Baum
Joan Catherine Repman Baum, known to many as Jo Ann, died Monday, November 7, 2011 at Erie Presbyterian Lodge after a short illness. She was born August 31, 1928 in Oil City, Pennsylvania to the late Ralph E. and Laura A. Lobaugh Repman. Joan was raised by her late aunt and uncle, Albert E. and Pearl L. Lobaugh Marchinke, with her late cousin, Violet Marchinke Van Dyke, whom she regarded as a sister.
Joan graduated from Oil City High School in 1946, and was Vice President of her senior class. She then worked at Quaker State Refining Company until 1952, moving to Dallas, Texas for two years, working for National Life and Accident Company, Nashville, Tennessee, Dallas office. After moving to Erie in 1955, she assisted her husband in his tax business. Joan enjoyed Canasta, bowling, skating, crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles, and most of all – her family. Joan was a member of Elmwood Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth C. Baum, whom she married on June 17, 1950, and with whom she celebrated 61 years. Other survivors include sons, Michael, married to Suzanne Demuling Arlet Baum of Waterford and Timothy, married to Michele Dula Baum, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and daughter, Cynthia, married to T.J. Laffan of Mill Village. She has six grandchildren, Tracy, Amy, Aaron, Christopher, Random, and Ivy; and three great-grandchildren, Haley, Nicolas and Vincent, all of whom she is very proud; and many nieces and nephews. She has a surviving sister, Nancy Gustafson of Oil City, Pa. She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters, Ralph, Jr., Charles, James, Rosalie Pritchard, Rita McGinely, and Patricia Parcell, as well as an infant sister, Mary Elizabeth.
A private service and interment will be held. By family request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Erie County Public Library, 160 E. Front St., Erie, PA 16507, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Attn: Donor Services, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, Texas 75265-0309 or donor's preferred charity. Arrangements are being handled by the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road.
