Joan C. Bainbridge Barczak, age 73, of Erie, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2011 after an extended illness. She was born in Erie on December 7, 1936, daughter of the late Albert Bainbridge and Margaret Mattson and step-daughter of the late Julia "Pat" Bainbridge Niedermyer.

Joan was a 1955 graduate of McDowell High School. She was a buyer for G.C. Murphy Company and then worked in the deli at Giant Eagle until her retirement. Joan was an avid reader and enjoyed bowling, crafts and luncheons with her fellow class mates from McDowell.

Joan is survived by her husband, Raymond Barczak; five children, Joe Shallenberger (Jane), Lisa Gnibus, Laura Clark (Dan), Patricia Wisor (Gary), Gary Bainbridge (Linda); nine grandchildren, Amybeth Sonquist (Ben), Joe Shallenberger, Jr. (Katie), David Shallenberger (Mindy), Peter Shallenberger (Cassie), T.J. Bainbridge, Chris Bainbridge, Kailyn Wisor, Kristy Gnibus, Nicole Gnibus; 2 brothers, Richard Bainbridge (Bobbie) and Alan Bainbridge (Sherry) and one sister, Kathy Schultz (Howard). eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Select Specialty Hospital and DaVita Dialysis for all the wonderful care given to Joan.

Friends will be received at South Harborcreek United Methodist Church, 7929 McGill Rd. on Wednesday from 5 pm until the time of the Memorial Service at 6 pm. conducted by Pastor Keith McGarvey. Memorial contributions may be made to Erie County Library, 160 East Front St., Erie, PA 16507.
