William Delmar "Bill" Avery
William Delmar "Bill" Avery, age 82, of Greene Twp., passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, November 5, 2011 following a lengthy illness. He was born November 8, 1928 in Helen Furnace, Pa., the eldest son born to Harold and Mae Ion Avery. Bill had resided in the Erie area for over 45 years.
He was employed by the General Electric Co. for 27 years prior to his retirement. In years past be had also been employed to move and build standard rigs for gas drilling. Bill was a member of the former West Greene Presbyterian Church and had also attended Wesley United Methodist Church. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR racing and watching sports of all kinds.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Stanley Avery; a sister-in-law, Barbara Love; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Avery. Survivors include his beloved wife of 63 years, Evelyn Y. Gulnac Avery; two sons, William "Bill" Avery of New Jersey and Daniel "Dan" Avery (wife Susan) of Virginia; two sisters, Marilyn "Polly" Hellmintoller (husband Bill) of Florida and Nola Aaron (husband Art) of Clarion; four grandchildren, Nicole, George, Rachael and Kayla Avery; a brother-in-law, James Gulnac (wife Marilyn) of Erie; a sister-in-law, Elsie Terwilleger (husband Vern) of Ohio; a dear niece, Shelley Love (husband Rick Peck) of Wesleyville; nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Monday from 2 p.m. until the time of the Funeral Service there at 4:15 p.m. conducted by Rev. Harry Johns III. Private interment will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Kuhl Hose Station 3, 3131 Rescue Lane, Erie, PA 16511.
