Vena Pearl Zerbe Bell
Vena Pearl Zerbe Bell, age 76, of Erie, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2011 at the Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center following a ten year battle with cancer. She was born on May 5, 1935 in Sugarcreek, Pa., daughter of the late Clarence L. and Beatrice Walters Zerbe. She had resided in Erie for most of her life.
Vena retired from Quality Markets in 1997. She was a member of Local 1 Retiree's Club and the Red Hat Society and enjoyed participating in activities at the Mercy Center and the Erie Senior Center. Vena had a passion for travel and had traveled the entire United States, as well as abroad to Italy, Ireland and South America. She was a proud grandmother who loved her grandchildren deeply and carried them close to her heart always.
Preceded in death by her husband, James William Bell; her brother, Charles Zerbe; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Loper; and a brother-in-law, Robert Bell. Vena is survived by her beloved son, William Bell (Carla) of Erie; her sister-in-law Marge Zerbe of Waterford, Pa.; four grandchildren, Ryan, Megan, Nicole and Nathan Bell; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to her close friends/neighbors, Carol Wisinski and Annette Carlson who helped during her courageous journey. Also, special thanks to the Staff at Sarah Reed and Lakeland Area Hospice for their tremendous care and support.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Road, on Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held there on Monday at 11 a.m. conducted by Rev. Lee Pomeroy, Pastor, Summit United Methodist Church. Private interment, Erie County Memorial Gardens.
