Frank Baumgardner

Frank Lawton Baumgardner, age 84, died Sunday May 21, 2011 at his residence in Lawrence Park following a brief illness. His whole family was able to gather with him in his last few days. He was born in Huntington, W. Va. on December 20, 1926, son of the late Randall and Josephine Lawton Baumgardner.

Frank served in the U.S. Navy V-12 during World War II, serving in the Philippines for a year before returning to Worchester Tech as an Electrical Engineer. He started with the General Electrical Co. July 1948 in Erie and worked at Schenectady, N.Y. and St. Louis, Mo. before returning to Erie in 1960 as a Manager in the Marketing Dept. Frank was a member of the G.E. Elfun Society. Frank's first love was always the Locomotive Dept. He retired in July of 1993.

After retirement, Frank spent many winters in Hilton Head, S.C. He volunteered at the G.E. Museum and Erie Blasco Library and also served as a Township Commissioner in Lawrence Park. His hobbies were golf and travel. Frank was a member of Harborcreek Presbyterian Church where he had served as a Deacon and an Elder and on various committees.

Frank is survived by his wife of 60 years, Diane Grenz Baumgardner; his daughter Lisa and husband Jon Priebe of Harborcreek; son Frank and wife Kathleen of Athens, Ala.; granddaughters Jennifer Cotton and husband Justin of Hermitage, Tenn. and Kimberly Kile and husband John stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Rd. on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Memorial Service there on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Private interment will be held.
