Ernest H. "Ernie" Bendig, Jr.
Ernest H. "Ernie" Bendig, Jr., age 83, of Lawrence Park passed away peacefully on Friday, October 8, 2010 at Ball Pavilion at Brevillier Village. He was born in Erie on January 27, 1927, son of the late Ernest, Sr. and Geneva Ragen Bendig.
A lifelong resident of Lawrence Park, Ernie graduated from Lawrence Park High School with the Class of 1944 and attended Grove City College and Penn State Behrend. He had been employed with Hammermill Paper Co. for 41 years, first as an electrician, then becoming a project engineer. He retired from Hammermill/International Paper in 1988 as a project engineer. Ernie was a member of the Lawrence Park Fishing Club, Lawrence Park Volunteer Fire Department, Lawrence Park Historical Society and served on the Lawrence Park Zoning Hearing Board. He was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist R.C. Church where he served as an usher, altar server and belonged to The Knights of Columbus St. Mark Council. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, camping and boating. Ernie was an avid golfer and volunteer.
Preceded in death by two brothers, Albert Bendig and his wife Beverly and Donald Bendig and his wife Carol. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Dolores Confer Bendig; three daughters, Marilyn Kunzelman (Jeff) of Harmony, PA., Janice Bendig-Tuznik of Lawrence Park and Lisa Bendig Pett (Stephen) of Erie; four grandchildren, Brenda Provident (Jeff), Tracy Rains (Chris), Adam Tuznik, and Kaylie Tuznik; one great-granddaughter, Hallie Provident; one sister, Suzanne Hedges; one brother, Gerald Bendig; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road, Erie, PA, 16510 on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Prayer Service there on Tuesday at 9:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark the Evangelist R.C. Church. Interment, Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
