Florence E. "Sue" McReel Luteran
Florence E. "Sue" McReel Luteran, age 71, of St. Joseph Apts., formerly residing in North East and Lawrence Park Twp., passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Hamot Medical Center. She was born February 5, 1939 in Norfolk, Va., one of four daughters born to the late James Arthur and Florence Evelyn Jordan McReel. She had resided in the Erie area since 1971.
Sue was a well-known certified drug and alcohol therapist since 1976. She had served with Professional Prevention Services, Hamot Institute for Behavioral Health, Erie County DUI, Inc., and Charter Behavioral Health System at Cove Forge/Outpatient Recovery Center. Sue's love for her career revolved around her work in schools teaching recovery to teenagers. Sue had also enjoyed lecturing throughout the country on the topics of recovery and intervention.
Sue was a long-time member of her beloved church, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. She had served on the church council and community center. She had also served on the Diocesan Synod. In addition to her work with teens and parents, she had served on numerous local boards and had volunteered countless hours to local charities and helping institutions. Her hobbies included white-water rafting and horseback riding. She loved spending time at the beach and swimming. Over her long and distinguished career, Sue had been the recipient of many awards and citations including the "Humanitarian Award" from the PA Assn. of Life Underwriters and the "Who's Who in the Vineyard" from the E.L.C.A.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ellen Sutton and Mary Jane Eubank and her dearest and longtime friend and soul-mate, Marilyn Colvin. Survivors include her four beloved children, Joseph Eubank, Jr. of Mauertown, VA, Gina Marie Kruse (husband Dana) of Fairview, David Eubank (wife Beth) of Erie and Michelle Lynn Zdunski of Millcreek Twp.; one sister, Barbara Segnari of Norfolk, Va.; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend the Funeral Service on Saturday at 11 am at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 643 W. 17th St., conducted by Rev. Karen Lundwall. Private interment will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Trinity Soup Kitchen, 643 West 17th St., Erie, PA 16502 or to the Perseus House Drug and Alcohol Program, 1511 Peach St., Erie, PA 16501.
