Michael L. Balter

Michael L. Balter, age 58, of Erie, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born in Erie on December 21, 1951, son of the late Joseph and Gertrude Balter.

Michael was a member of Holy Rosary R.C. Church. He was a gifted musician, playing the organ and piano. He had played the organ for over 20 years at masses at Holy Rossary. Michael was employed at Riley Stoker for over 20 years and then Verizon for 11 years prior to retirement. He enjoyed flower gardening, collecting model trains and spending time with his dogs Cadbury and Turk.

Survived by 2 brothers, Joseph Balter (Magdalene) of Erie and James Balter of Georgia; 2 sisters, Margaret McMahon (Michael) of Oil City and Susan Carr (friend, James Brozell) of Girard; his dear friend and caregiver, Ian Morris; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 1 brother, Thomas Balter and 1 sister, Kathryn Harrington.

No calling hours will be observed. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at Holy Rosary, R.C. Church, 2701 East Ave. on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Private interment will be held at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
