Sophia Jankauskas Mathers, age 96, of Saga Street, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Abington Crest Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born on July 17, 1913 in Bulger, Pa., daughter of the late Charles and Mary Kirklowski Jankauskas. She had been a resident of Erie since 1947.

Sophia had been employed at Talon Industries and Viscos Corp. in Meadville and had also worked at General Electric Co. and Erie Universal. She was a member of Mt. Calvary R.C. Church. She also attended the Mercy Center as a volunteer.

She is survived by one daughter, Catherine "Cathy" Schley (Gary) of Erie; two sons, Richard B. Mathers (Lee Anne) of Millcreek and Donald K. Mathers (Noel) of Edinboro; Stepson, Jerry Mathers (Michelle); three grandchildren, Donald Schley of Erie and Sara Koby (Mike) and Melissa Mathers of Florida; step-granddaughter, Stephanie Cross (Mike) of Erie; and one niece, Annette Horn of Florida. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Donald Mathers; sisters and a brother, Tony Miller.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Friday from 3 p.m. until the time of the Funeral Service there at 6 p.m. conducted by Msgr. Daniel Magraw, Pastor, Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church. Interment, Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence Park Fire Dept, 4102 Main St., Erie, PA 16511.
