Irene Alexa Prochowski, age 91, of Erie, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Erie Presbyterian Lodge. She was born in Erie on February 25, 1919, daughter of the late Henry and Rose Zwolak Krajczynski. She was a lifelong Erie resident.

Irene was a member of St. James R.C. Church. She had been employed with Sears Roebuck & Co. for 20 years retiring in 1981. She was a member of the CYS Club and the Huzar Club. Irene enjoyed knitting, crocheting, flower gardening, playing cards and bingo.

Survivors include one daughter, Antoinette LaCastro of Erie; one son, Richard J. Alexa of Erie; one stepson, James Prochowski; one stepdaughter, Cynthia Weber of Avon Lake, Ohio; one sister, Dorothy Spizarny of Erie; 11 grandchildren, Kristen Alexa-Kneisel, Stacey Alexa, Stephanie Alexa, Angela LaCastro, Jonathan LaCastro, Amy McClatchy, Dr. Alicia Baker, Ann Butts, Jackie Charvat, Matthew Weber and Mary Weber; 18 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her first husband, John Alexa; her second husband, Joseph Prochowski; a son, John Alexa, Jr.; three brothers, Edward and Alex Krajczynski, and Stephen Krajczynski who died in WWII; and four sisters, Genevieve Clover, Jean Nowakowski, Helen Vance and Jessie Szczesny.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Prayer Service there on Wednesday at 10 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. James R.C. Church at 10:30 a.m. Interment, Calvary Cemetery.
