Daniel M. Allen

Daniel M. Allen, age 79, of Erie, passed away Friday, February 12, 2010. He was born March 19, 1930 in Erie, son of the late Arthur and Janet Martin Allen. He had resided in the Erie area his entire life.

Dan was a 1947 graduate of the former Academy High School. He had served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1948 to 1952. Dan was a retired City of Erie Firefighter. He had retired as a driver with Engine Co. #13 in 1997 after 33 years of service to the City. He began his fire-fighting career with the former Engine Co. #5 (now Co. #8 at East 9th & East Ave.). Prior to serving as a firefighter, he held various jobs including cleaning and delivering fish as well as a position with the former Railway Express. He was a member of I.A.F.F. Local #293 as well as a lifetime member of the NRA. He was a maritime, military and Western Pa. history enthusiast.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur J. "Sam" Allen and two brothers-in-law, Earl M. Kindle and Robert L. Muffie. Survivors include his beloved wife of 47 years, Jean A. Muffie Allen; one son, Arthur D. "Dan" Allen (Sallyann Kluz) of Pittsburgh; his twin sister, Janet Kindle of Erie; two brothers, David B. Allen of Erie and Richard H. "Dick" Allen (Mary) of Erie; a sister-in-law, Jane Allen of Erie; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend the Funeral Service there on Tuesday at 11 a.m. conduced by Rev. Rick Cepris, Interim Pastor, Emmanuel Presbyterian Church. Interment, Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Assn., "Fill the Boot", 2810 West 21st St., Erie, PA 16506, Firefighter's Historical Museum, 428 Chestnut St., Erie, PA 16507 or the A.N.N.A. Shelter, 1555 East 10th St., Erie, PA 16511.
