Betty Chitester Snyder Berty

Betty Chitester Snyder Berty, age 86, of Erie, went on to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at her residence at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Center. She was born in Brookville, Pa. on May 13, 1923 daughter of the late Howard and Emma Chitester.

Betty was first married to Richard B. Snyder in 1941. He passed away in 1963. Over the years Betty worked in various jobs, the Wesleyville Bakery, General Electric and Thomas Jewelers. From 1972 - 1976 she owned and operated The Little Bit of Sweden Restaurant in Belle Valley. Following that Betty married Allen Berty and moved to Falls Creek, Pa. where she worked in the office of Leppert and Love, Allen's construction company. Allen passed away in 2009. Betty was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church when living in Erie and First United Methodist Church while in Falls Creek. While there she had the privilege to go on several work trips to Haiti.

Betty is survived by six children, Rev. Terry Snyder (Shirley), Rodney Snyder (Paula) all of Erie, Kathy Hall (Bob) of Ontario, N.Y. and Rick Snyder (Julie) of Lawrence Park, Shirley Snyder (Terry) of Erie and Dorothy Youngdahl (Rick) of Brookville, Pa.; one brother, George Chitester (Phyllis) of Erie; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Besides her spouses, Betty was also preceded in death by a sister, Sarah McGonagle.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, 2607 Buffalo Rd. on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Further visitation will be held at Port Barnett United Methodist Church in Brookville, Pa., on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service there at 11 a.m., conducted by her son, Rev. Terry Snyder. Interment will follow at Temple Cemetery, Hazen, Pa.
