Marion J. Bartnik

Marion J. Bartnik, age 89, of Harborcreek, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Hamot Medical Center. He was born in Erie on December 8, 1919, son of the late Frank and Victoria Szczesny Bartnik.

A lifelong Erie area resident, Marion was a member of Our Lady of Mercy R.C. Church. He was a millwright for 39 years with Bucyrus Erie, retiring in 1980. Marion was a life member of Polish Falcons #123 and a life member and past president of Erie District Bowling Assn. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the South Pacific during WWII as an Oil King at a Water Tender Rate on the U.S.S. Altamaha CVE and the U.S.S. Palau CVE.

The widower of Mary Loeffler Bartnik, who died in 2003 and Pearl Walczak Bartnik, who died in 1973; survivors include two daughters, Mary Courtwright (Marvin) of Naples, Fla. and Kathleen McKinley (Darryl) of Medina, Ohio; a stepson, David Loeffler of Miami, Fla.; a step-daughter, Janice Kennedy (Jon) of Tampa, Fla.; one sister, Pearl Hood of Erie; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by two sisters, Gertrude Rogala and Mary Bartnik and three brothers, Matthew, Raymond and Joseph Bartnik.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Prayer Service there on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy R.C. Church. Interment, Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mercy R.C. Church, 837 Bartlett Rd., Harborcreek, PA 16421.
