Gregory Lee Abbey

Gregory Lee Abbey, age 61, of Erie died Monday, November 23, 2009 at home after a long battle with cancer. He stated, "I struggled 33 years fighting cancer. I thank ALL who helped me fight this disease." He was born January 10, 1948 in Erie, son of the late Charles Abbey and Josephine Chimera Abbey Beebe.

He earned an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering from Penn State Behrend in 1968 and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Management from Gannon University in 1976. He was an industrial foreman with Honeywell Corporation. Gregory's passion was remote controlled model airplanes. He loved to design, build and fly them and was a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics and many other related RC Airplane clubs. He was an amazing father and grandfather and enjoyed his family very much.

Gregory was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Abbey. Survivors include his children, Eulala, James and Nathaniel Abbey; grandchildren, Odessa and Raelyn Abbey of Florida; siblings, Richard, William and Gerald Abbey of Erie, and Mary Phelps and Tina Batts of North East; fiancé Peggy Roush of Ripley, N.Y.; uncle and friend, John Chimera of North East; and many other family and friends.

Friends and family will be received at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., West, 536 West 10th Street on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 from 5 p.m. until the time of a Tribute Service there at 7 p.m. where they may share memories of Gregory. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Family c/o the funeral home. Memorial gifts may also be designated to the American Cancer Society, 2115 W. 38th St., Erie, PA 16508 or the Regional Cancer Center, 2500 W. 12th St., Erie, PA 16505.
