Helen Fox Bauer

Helen Fox Bauer, age 89, died peacefully on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Twinbrook Medical Center with her loving daughter Kathy at her side. She was the widow of Leo B. Fox, who died in 1958 and Charles Bauer, who died in 1976. Her youngest daughter, Annette Ripley, died in 2005 and her grandson, Garret Pomeroy in 2008. Born in Simpson, PA, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Kathryn Kusio Revak. Helen was a 1938 graduate of Fell High School in Simpson.

She and Leo moved to Erie in 1950 and they become members of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Harborcreek, Pa. She remained a lifelong member.

Helen lived a wonderfully productive and prayerful life. Widowed at age 38, she raised her five children and when they were educated and married went on to travel to religious shrines – Fatima, Lourdes and Medjugore. She also cultivated her artistic ability by creating beautiful china painting, and made thousands of rosaries which she provided to missions and the military. After retiring at age 70 from Sears Roebuck, she wrote her life story in four volumes. Helen sponsored a mission priest, Father Matthew Mavely, Keraly, India, who remained devoted to her. She lived in Miami with her daughter Margaret from 2005 until early July of this year. She was known for her "Hotline to Heaven" since her prayers helped so many people. Even in Miami she was personally asked to pray for intentions by individuals who met her during her several hospitalizations. She remained optimistic and happy throughout her life despite the many personal tragedies and loss of loved ones she endured.

She will be deeply missed by her devoted family. She is survived by her son, Leo B. Fox of Philadelphia, PA; daughter Kathryn Wilcox and her husband David of Erie and grandchildren, Karen and Terry Pomeroy of Tampa, FL, David and Bridget Wilcox and Cheri and David Piotrowski of Erie and Jonathan and Julie Wilcox of Tampa; daughter, Margaret Kovacs and husband George of Miami, Fl and granddaughters, Christina Kovacs of Miami and Erica and David Emmets of New York City, Marta and Hector Serrano of Austin, TX; daughter Christine and Jack Lebo of Chantilly, VA and grandsons, Captain Stephen Lebo, U.S.M.C. of San Diego and Joseph Lebo of Washington, DC and her beloved grandchildren, Matthew and Arielle Ripley of Montana and Christopher and Katie Ripley of Lake Mary, FL.
