George I. Smith

George I. Smith, age 58, of Erie, died Sunday, June 28, 2009 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was born in Numine, Pa. on September 5, 1950, son of the late Mervin and Lois Smith.

George was a Pharmacy Technician at Lakeshore Isotopes; prior to that he worked at Erie Builders, Parade Lumber, Koppers and Erie Coke. He was a member of the Siebenbuerger Club and enjoyed collecting Griswold and Wagner Cast Iron. George was a 1968 graduate of Academy High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife, Mellody Henderson Smith; one son, Eric Smith of Erie; a grandson, Carson Smith of Erie; one brother, James Smith (Jane) of Waterford; two sisters, Cheryl Martz (Jack) of Erie; Margaret Briggs (Ronald) of Waterford; his best friends, John and Linda Cristea of Warren, Pa.; many nieces and nephews.

No calling hours will be observed. A private entombment will be held at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road.
