Frances Helen Bens

Frances Helen Bens, age 94, of Erie, died Saturday June 20, 2009 at St. Vincent Health Center. She was born in Erie on April 3, 1915, daughter of the late Modest and Helen Lukowski.

Frances was a member of St. James R.C. Church where she was active in the crafts and ceramics groups. After working at General Electric and the Boston Store, she spent several years as a classroom aide in the Physically Challenged class at Lawrence Park Primary School. Frances and her husband were active in the Y-squares Round and Square Dance Club for many years. She enjoyed playing pinochle and bingo with her friends at Mercy Terrace Apts.

Preceded in death by her husband, Harold Bens; three sisters, Virginia Lukowski, Tillie “Pat” Luna and Sophie Phillips; and a granddaughter, Barbara Mitcho Hollibaugh. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Mitcho (Anthony) of Girard, PA and Deborah Barnett (James) of Tucson, AZ; three grandchildren, Jillian Stuut (Ian), Kayla Barnett and Michael Mitcho (Renee); three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Prayer Service there on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. James R.C.
