Dorothy M. Aikens
Dorothy M. Aikens, age 81, of Conneaut, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2009 following an ongoing illness. She was born in Wesleyville on January 13, 1928, daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Blackath Hamill.
Dorothy had been a resident of Conneaut, Ohio for 37 years, previously living in Wesleyville and the Burton Park area of Erie. Prior to her marriage she had been employed as a secretary with General Electric Co. During her lifetime Dorothy had been a member of St. James and St. Luke R.C. Churches in Erie and St. Frances Cabrini in Conneaut, Ohio. She loved playing cards, gardening, cooking and was an avid collector. Also, she was a fan of the financial markets. The main focus of her life was being a devoted mother, grandmother and faithful homemaker.
Preceded in death by her husband in 1979, Warren L. Aikens, who was raised in Harborcreek; her son, Michael Aikens in 1995; two brothers, Richard and William Hamill. Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Hamernick (Ronald) of Dunkirk, NY and Judith Tully (James) of Conneaut, Ohio; one son, David Aikens of Conneaut, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Moravek of Sarasota, FL; many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Prayer Service there on Monday at 10 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. James R.C. Church. Interment, Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Frances Cabrini, R.C. Church, 744 Mill St., Conneaut, OH 44030.
