Virginia White Adams

Virginia White Adams, age 93 of Erie passed away Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Hamot Medical Center. She was born November 24, 1915 in Erie, daughter of the late Everett and Claudia Bowen White. She had resided in Erie her entire life.

Virginia was a 1933 graduate of East High School. She had been employed by the Boston Store for several years as a clerk in their menswear department, and at the former Bucyrus Erie and the Erie Association for Retarded Citizens as a bookkeeper.

Virginia organized the first Girl Scout Troop at Gannondale School for Girls; was a volunteer at the Dr. Gertrude A. Barber Center for over 50 years; and was a member of the former East Erie Turners Club. She was a lifelong member of St. Mark Episcopal Church. She was an avid reader and, in her earlier years, enjoyed gardening and playing the piano.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Frank M. Adams in 1999 and earlier this month by her oldest daughter, Audrey Adams Skinner. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer and Stanley White and two sisters, Thora and Evelyn White.

Survivors include daughter Susan Elaine Adams of Erie; one sister, Maudie L. White; son-in-law, Richard A. Skinner of Dallas, TX; five grandchildren, Dr. Dirk E. Skinner and his wife Marianne, Darrell W. Skinner, Damon B. Skinner, Drew B. Skinner and Deborah R. MacDougall; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., West, 536 West Tenth Street on Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m. and are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Friday, December 26th at St. Mark Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. conducted by Rev. Richard Elberfeld.

A special Memorial Service and Inurnment for both Virginia Adams and daughter Audrey A. Skinner will be held on January 17, 2009 at 2 p.m. at St. Mark Episcopal Church Columbarium. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dr. Gertrude A. Barber National Institute, 100 Barber Place, Erie, PA 16507 or to St. Mark Episcopal Church, 4701 Old French Road, Erie, PA 16509.
