Edward H. Behrenbeck

Edward H. Behrenbeck, age 65, of Millcreek, died at his home last month after a long battle with heart disease. He was born in Erie on May 14, 1943, the only child of the late Edward and Margaret Schwartz Behrenbeck, Sr.

Ed graduated from Academy High School in 1962 and then attended the DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago. He stayed on in the Windy City working as a bowling alley manager at All Star Lanes. In 1966, Ed enlisted in the U.S. Army where he trained as a cook, was a member of the bowling team and served both in the United States and in German. He was decorated as an expert rifleman and was also awarded both the good conduct and national defense service medals. Ed was then honorably discharged in 1970 with the rank of Specialist Four.

Upon returning to Erie, Ed worked as the bowling alley manager at the old Cesar Batisti Club (now CYS) and then at East Erie Turners, where he retired in 2002. During those years, he became one of the Erie area's top bowlers, hopping his way to numerous 7000 Series, a high season average of 216, and a personal best set of 804. After all that success, Ed then mysteriously retired from competitive bowling in 1982. He also enjoyed his racing Corvette, video editing, refurbishing old pinball machines, attending NASCAR races and collecting old movies, baseball cards, die cast cars and trucks.

Ed was a regular at local bowling tournaments and also the McDonalds early morning breakfast club. He will be remembered for his quiet nature, dry sense of humor, asking funny "important questions" and challenging people to do well at something so they would win a prize from him.

Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Luncheon at Ricardo's Restaurant, 2112 East Lake Road on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. Interment, Laurel Hill Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., West, 536 West 10th St.
