Joseph B. "Joe" Rodney

Joseph B. "Joe" Rodney, age 91, of Erie, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2008 at Twinbrook Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in Erie on February 14, 1917, son of the late John and Sophie Sulkowski Ratkowski.

Joe was the owner of Rodney Music Co. for 50 years, where he taught music and had composed several music books. He was also affiliated with Rodney Car Sales for 50 years. He was a member of ASCAP and had played with the Top Hatters, who had a live half hour television show on WICU-TV for many years. Joe was a member of East Erie Moose Lodge, Erie Federation of Musicians and a member of Mt. Calvary R.C. Church. He had many hobbies, all centered around his love of music.

Survivors include two daughters, Diane Carver (Dick) of Harborcreek Twp. and Linda Tarasovitch of Millcreek Twp.; one son, Ron Rodney, Jr. (Marge) of Erie; one brother, John Ratkowski of Erie; one sister, Evelyn Buczynski (John) of Erie; five grandchildren, Jill, Lori, Ron, Jr., Dennis and John; four great-grandchildren, Allison, Michael, Tommy and Nicholas; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sophie T. Rodney; a sister, Sophie Zeny and two brothers, Leonard and Stanley Rodney.

No calling hours will be observed. Private services will be held at the convenience of the Family. Interment, Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., West, 536 West 10th St.
