James D. Bielak

James D. Bielak, age 56 of Erie, died Friday, September 14, 2007 at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Erie on March 22, 1955, son of the late Ervin and Dorothy Bielak.

Jim was the owner of Bielak's Auto Transport and previously worked at PA Soldier's & Sailor's Home and Zurn Industries. Jim was a car and motorcycle enthusiast and was previously vice-president of the AFL-CIO for 11 years. He was on the Board of the EC and EC Credit Union and helped organize the steel worker's unions. He was a member of St. Peter Cathedral, the Polish Businessmen's Club and the Siebenbuerger Club.

Jim is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kathleen Herring Bielak; three children, Wendy Gaiser (fiancé, Allen Rose), James D. Bielak, Jr. (Elizabeth) and Christopher A. Bielak, all of Erie; one brother, Edward Bielak (Mary) of North East; two sisters, Mary "Bebe" Bielak and Kristina Straub (William), all of Erie; seven grandchildren, Cory, Brittany and Nicholas Gaiser and Jack, Alex, Noah and Irvin Bielak; many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., East, 2607 Buffalo Road on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Prayer Service there on Monday at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Peter Cathedral at 10 a.m. A Eulogy Tribute Service will be held at the Funeral Home Sunday at 8:30 p.m. Interment, Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
