Mary Laverne Casher Baker

Mary Laverne Casher Baker, age 92 has gone to rest with the Lord, surrendering her spirit January 25th 2011 at St. Mary's Home East. Formerly of North East, PA. She was born on July 11, 1918 the daughter of the Late Joseph Henry and Martha (Kirkpatrick) Casher in Spangler, Pa (now Cambria, Pa). She was preceded in death by her husband Willard G. Baker Sr. in 1983 and by three brothers: Joseph E. Casher, Paul Dalvin Casher WWII casualty, and Patrick Casher.

Mary was a graduate of Spangler HS in 1936 and was a member of St. Gregory Church in North East. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting and worked at several local fruit processors, at the Erie General Electric and in the Welch Foods cafeteria. Mary was a member of the Sr. Citizen Square Dance Group and did volunteer work for the Sr. Center and Meals on Wheels in North East.

She was married on September 7, 1940 at St Patrick's Church in Erie, Pa to Willard G. Baker Sr. They made North East, Pa their home in 1950. They had five children.

While Mary worked a few part time jobs, she should best be remembered for her devotion to and unyielding love for her children, her immediate family and her faith. Her motivation was to pass her impeccable values on to her five children who are left to carry her love forward:

Also survived by 12 loving grandchildren : Kathleen Plucinski, Shelley Robinson, Mark Morris, Debra Skwaryk, Patricia Locke, Jeffrey Baker, Michael Baker, Jeramy Baker, Susanna Baker, Aaron Baker, Shawn Baker, Matthew Baker, 11 loving great grandchildren: John Plucinski, April Ita, Shannon Robinson, Heather Robinson, Nathan Wilt, Emily Skwaryk, Jacob Locke, Rachael Baker, Brynn Baker, Marc Ant, Loralei Baker, 3 great great grandchildren, Ava and Amaya Ita and Gianna Plucinski and many nieces and nephews. Mary is further survived by one brother Thomas G. Casher, Renovo, PA

Friends will be received at the W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, 92 S. Lake St., North East, PA on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. and are invited to attend prayer services there on Friday at 10 A. M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 from St. Gregory Church in North East. Interment will be in North East Cemetery.
