Glenda (Boyd) Keck
Glenda (Boyd) Keck, 92, passed away Thursday August 12, 2010 at her residence, the Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center in Erie. She was born on September 24, 1917 in Somerset, PA. She was the daughter of the late C. Ray and Charlotte Walker Boyd.
Glenda was a 1936 graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School and graduated as a Registered Nurse from Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing, Pittsburgh, PA in 1939. She was a Medical Supervisor at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh for ten years. While Dr. Keck was stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA during WWII, Glenda worked for the Red Cross. Glenda was a very active member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greensburg, PA where she was in charge of the Alter Guild for many years. She was involved in her community, having volunteered for over 30 years at the Child Development Center for Infants and for Meals on Wheels for 28 years in Greensburg. Glenda was a member and held several offices in the Westmoreland County Medical Society Women's Auxiliary and was an honorary member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society Auxiliary. She was active in and a board member of the Girl Scouts of America of Westmoreland Co. Glenda loved reading and traveling with her husband and family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William S. Keck in 2007, two brothers, John Boyd (a bombardier, died on a combat mission during WWII) and Franklin Boyd, one sister, Ednaray Lucas and her beloved stepmother, Edna Austin Boyd. Glenda is survived by three daughters, Cindy Bryan and her husband Jim of North East, PA, Sally Keck of Boston, MA and Wendy Fryfogle and her husband Jim of Spring, TX and one sister, Rose Knoche and her husband Dave of NJ. Also survived by four grandchildren Amy Bryan and her husband Nathan Fry, Kimberly Kosto and her husband Martin, Ashley Cunningham and her husband Scott and Adam Fryfogle and his wife Deidre, two great granddaughters Kirsten and Kedran Kosto and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, North East, PA with a memorial service to be Saturday September 4, 2010 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greensburg, PA at a time to be determined. Interment will be private for the family in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Trauger, PA.
