Doris L. Durst

Doris L. Durst, 95, of North East, passed away Saturday, May 15, 2010 surrounded by her family at Fairview Manor following a brief illness. She was born December 20, 1914 in Ashtabula, OH a daughter of the late Roy L. and Arminta Mays Spear.

Doris married Herbert W. Durst on June 17, 1939 in North East, PA. They were married for 44 years until his death on June10, 1983.

Doris graduated from Harborcreek High School. She was a homemaker and also worked at the G.C. Murphy Co. in North East, PA. Doris reluctantly retired from Murphy's at age 70 because company policy prohibited her from working beyond that age. She was very active and always on the go. She enjoyed going to the theater and concerts, especially when her family members were performing. She also enjoyed doing puzzles of all kinds.

Since her marriage, Doris was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was an active member of St. Paul's Ladies Aid and enjoyed working on the many events and projects they held.

Besides her husband, Doris was preceded in death by two sisters, Marian E. Spear and Ruth V. Sherwood and one brother, David L. Spear. She is survived by two sons, Dale Durst and his wife Brenda of Matthews, NC and David Durst and his wife Pam of Erie and one daughter, Carol Field of North East. Also survived by 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, 92 S. Lake St., North East, PA on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. and are invited to attend funeral services there on Tuesday at 11 A.M. Rev. David Kuchta will officiate. Interment will be in North East Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 30 Clinton St., North East, PA 16428.
