Gerald "Jerry" Broadhead II

Gerald Arthur "Jerry" Broadhead of North East, passed away Friday, November 6, 2009 at his home, with his family by his side. He was born in Jamestown, N.Y. on April 26, 1921, to the late Gerald and Gertrude Lindstrom Broadhead.

Raised in Findley Lake, NY he maintained his connection through the years as a life member of the Findley Lake/Mina Historical Society. After serving in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII, he settled in North East with his wife, Mary Margaret; worked at General Electric, McKay Swift and Electric Materials, retiring in 1986. He was a member of American Legion Post #105 and during the 50's & 60's was a member of the Legion's Drill Team. He also was a member of V.F.W. Post 4789. An avid golfer, Jerry was a charter member of Lake View Country Club golfing there for 22 years, followed by membership at Green Meadows Golf Course, where he had a "hole-in-one" on the 7th Hole. He was also a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.

Jerry was a proud member of Crescent Hose Co. for 43 years. He served in the positions of fire police lieutenant, fire police captain, vice president, president, trustee, worked on numerous committees and back in the 60's, was responsible for the organization of the Rescue Squad. A Cherry Festival parade wasn't complete without Jerry at the wheel of the 1919 Pumper until the pumper's retirement, which came before his. In 1996 the Fire Department recognized Jerry for his many years of service and he was Grand Marshall for the 51st Annual Cherry Festival Parade.

Survivors include Jerry's wife of 68 years, Mary Margaret Meehl Broadhead; two children, Patricia "Patti" Britt of North East and Gerald "Gary" Broadhead and his wife, Denise, of Bradford, PA; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Stephen Britt and his wife Natalie, and their children, Alex, Joshua and Peyton; Christopher Britt and his wife Christine, and their children, Branan and Catie Margaret; Eric Britt and his son, Jordan, all of North East; and Jeremy Broadhead of Annapolis, Md., Jason Broadhead of Charlotte, N.C. and Wendy Broadhead Sloper and her husband Todd of Baltimore, Md. Also survived by a nephew whom he raised, Bob Broadhead and his wife, Joanie of North East; and several other nephews and a niece. The family wishes to especially thank Jerry's nephew, Doug Meehl, for always being there for Jerry. His brother, Merle, preceded Jerry in death.

Friends may call at the W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, 92 S. Lake St., North East, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a Funeral Service there on Tuesday at 10 a.m. conducted by Pastor Charles Wertz of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
