Margaret (Peg) Phillips Pero
Margaret (Peg) Phillips Pero, 92, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Twinbrook Medical Center. She was born on January 14, 1917 in Erie, PA a daughter of the late Meryl Dayton and Catherine Isobel MacLeod Phillips.
Peg was a member of the Park United Methodist Church in North East where she was past president of the Methodist Guild of the church. She had been employed as a laboratory worker at Keystone Foods in North East for many years. Peg attended Remington Country School and was a 1933 graduate of North East High School and a 1937 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. In 1995 she and her late husband Al were recipients of the North East Exchange Club "Book of Golden Deeds" award.
Peg held memberships in many organizations and was past president of the North East Chapter of the PTA, past president of the AFS, North East Chapter, past president of the North East Garden Club and past president of the North East Womans Club. She served as Regent of the DAR for six years and was a member and Past Worthy Matron of Shiloh Chapter #153 O.E.S. in North East. Peg was also a member of Selket Temple #140, Daughters of the Nile.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Alfred J. Pero in 1999 and a brother John Phillips. Peg is survived by one son, John Pero and his wife Debra of North East, one daughter, Cathy Howard of North East and four grandchildren, Cheryl Bergman and her husband David of NC, Jason Pero and his wife Nadia of Erie, Nathan Pero and his wife Catherine of Conneaut, OH and Julie Pero of North East. Also survived by 4 great grandchildren, Lynley Bergman, and Alex, Mia and Sophia Pero.
Friends will be received at the W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, 92 S. Lake St., North East, PA on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. and are invited to attend funeral service on Friday at 11 A.M.at the Park United Methodist Church, North East, PA. Rev. Dr. Mark E. Hecht, pastor of the church will officiate. Interment will be in North East Cemetery. Shiloh Chapter #153 O.E.S. will conduct services at the funeral home on Thursday at 7 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Park United Methodist Church, 30 N. Lake St., North East, PA 16428 or to the Community Nursing Services of North East, 7 Park St., North East, PA 16428.
