Dorothea A. Hirtzel
Dorothea A. Hirtzel, 91, of North East, PA, passed away Friday May 1, 2009 at Ball Pavilion at Brevillier Village. She was born on January 26, 1918 in North East, PA a daughter of the late Carl J. and Amanda Lexow Kalteis.
Dorothea was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in North East where she taught Sunday school and played the organ and piano for services. She had worked at various North East Businesses retiring from G.C. Murphy Co. She served as Queen of the Concords in 1942, which was the predecessor to the Pa State Grape Queen. Dorothea was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and enjoyed knitting and tatting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Hirtzel in 1975, one brother, Carl Kalteis and one sister Helen Sceiford. Dorothea is survived by two sons, Charles Hirtzel and his wife Chris and Philip Hirtzel, all of North East, two daughters, Harriet Hirtzel and Elaine Hirtzel both of North East and one sister Lois Seeley of North East. Also survived by 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and a close friend Kari Charles.
Friends will be received at the W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, 92 S. Lake St., North East, PA on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. and are invited to attend funeral services on Tuesday at 11 A.M. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 30 Clinton St., North East, PA. Rev. David Kuchta and Rev. Charles Wertz will officiate. Interment will be in North East Cemetery.
