Betty H. Gierke

Betty H. Gierke, 88, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2009 at her residence in North East. She was born on June 23, 1920 in North East, PA a daughter of the late John and Bertha Schoenfeldt Kebler.

Betty was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in North East where she was a member of the Ladies Aide of the Church. She enjoyed bowling and was in bowling leagues at North East Lanes and St. Joe's Club in North East. Betty and her late husband Richard H. Gierke who passed away in 2004 owned and operated Gierke Fruit Farm in North East.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Suzanne Halloran in 2007, one granddaughter, Julie Halloran, one brother John S. Kebler, and her step mother Helena A. Kebler. Betty is survived by one daughter, Linda G. Schroder of North East and 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.

Friends will be received at the W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, 92 S. Lake St., North East, PA on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. and are invited to attend funeral services there on Thursday at 10 A.M. Rev. David Kuchta will officiate. Interment will follow in North East Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 30 Clinton St., North East, PA 16428.
