Ernest V. Gill

Ernest V. Gill, 87, of Troupe Rd., Harborcreek, passed away Sunday November 9, 2008, after a brief illness and surrounded by his family, at St. Vincents Health Center. He was born in Bradford, PA on April 4, 1921 a son of the late Ernest V. and Pearl Jones Gill.

He was a carpenter by trade having worked for IBC Homes and Suter Overhead Door. Ernest was a member of the Harborcreek Vol. Fire Dept having served as Fire Chief in the 1950's. He was a member of Carl Neff American Legion Post #571, Wesleyville, a Life member of V.F.W. Post 9401 in AZ, Westfield Moose Lodge #118, Westfield, NY, the Eriez Teepee Toters and the Coachman Spotted Vagabonds in NY. He served with the U.S. Army during WW II having been awarded the Bronze Star.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Richard, Russell, Ted and Fran. Ernest is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marion Dougan Gill, when he married December 23, 1942, one son, David A. Gill and his wife Karen of Lake Havasu City, AZ, one daughter, Marcia Detzel and her husband Peter of Harborcreek, PA, four grandchildren, Carrie Detzel Eibl and her husband Jess, Julie Detzel, Alicia Gill and David Gill, two great grandchildren, Bella Eibl and Luke Eibl.

Friends are invited to attend a Military graveside service conducted by Carl Neff Post #571, Wesleyville, PA on Saturday at 11 A.M. in North East Cemetery, North East, PA. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, 92 S. Lake St., North East, PA.
