Josephine G. (Jo) Beacham

Josephine G. (Jo) Beacham, 92 of North East and formerly of Erie, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Ball Pavilion, Harborcreek, PA. She was born on November 18, 1915 in Connellsville, PA a daughter of the late James Christy and Irene Lytle Grossman.

Jo graduated from Slippery Rock State Teachers College in 1937 and taught in Delmont, PA and at the Erie Day School from 1951 to 1973. She was a past member of the Association of University Women, The Woman's Association of the Church of the Covenant, Erie, The Woman's Club of Erie and the Retired Teachers of Erie. She was a fifty year member of the Church of the Covenant and most recently has been a member of Park United Methodist Church of North East. Jo was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crafts.

Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Beacham in 1981 and three brothers, John, James and Philip Grossman. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Beacham Anderson and her husband Grant of Pittsburgh and Betsy Beacham Sceiford of North East. Also survived by three grandsons, Kenneth Anderson and his wife Kate, of Windham, ME, Edward Anderson and his wife Beth of Durham, NC and Michael Sceiford of North East, two grandaughters, Laura Sceiford Edinboro, PA and Amanda Sceiford of Blacksburg, VA. Also survived by two great grandsons, Lee and Holden Anderson.

Friends will be received at the W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, 92 S. Lake St., North East, PA on Sunday from 2 P.M. until the time of service there at 4 P.M. Rev. Dr. Mark E. Hecht, pastor of Park United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Park United Methodist Church College Scholarship Fund, 30 N. Lake St., North East, PA McCord Memorial Library, 32 W. Main St., North East, PA or The Community Nursing Services of North East Hospice, 7 Park St., North East, PA 16428.
