Sara Elizabeth Runkle Bemiss

Sara E. Bemiss, 96, formerly of South Lake St., North East, passed away Tuesday July 17, 2007 at Heritage House in North East. She was born on March 22, 1911 in Stewartstown, PA a daughter of the late J. Roy and Edna Keesey Runkle.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in North East where she was a Sunday School Teacher for many years. Sara was a graduate of Westchester State Teachers College and prior to her marriage, she taught grades 1 thru 8 in a one room school. She was a member of Shiloh Chapter #153 O.E.S. in North East and was a member and past president of the North East Women's Club.

Sara was a good wife, mother and enjoyed opening her house to the neighborhood children. She had a great talent for cooking, flower gardening and sewing. She enjoyed poetry and keeping journals on the weather and her daily activities.

Preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Meryl K. Bemiss on October 31, 2005, two brothers and two sisters. Sara is survived by two sons, Norman Bemiss and his wife Shirley and Gordon Bemiss, all of North East, two daughters, Beverly Walz and her husband Albert of North East and Darlene Kranz and her husband Jose of MD, one brother, Rodney Runkel and his wife Catherine of Stewartstown, PA. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the W. Tad Bowers Funeral Home, Independent Care Group Affiliate, 92 S. Lake St., North East, PA on Thursday from 6:30 to 9 P.M. and are invited to attend funeral services there on Friday at 11 A.M. Rev. Harold Kelley will officiate. Interment will be in North East Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church 25 W. Main St., North East, PA 16428 or to the charity of ones choice.
